Blocks. Doors. Walls.

What do walls, closed doors and blocks all have in common – they are designed to stop you from getting what you want, keeping away from achieving your goals. But are they really?

For me, no one said it better than Randy Pausch, “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”

We fill up our calendars with events, meetings or errands which can be exhausting, preventing us from truly relaxing or reaching our goals. Busywork or distractions that prevent us from exploring what is sabotaging us from investigating the deeper questions of why you want it.

Closed doors and walls are opportunities to ask yourself the deeper questions:

  • How badly do I want it?
  • Why do I want it? And what may be an even deeper desire?
  • What am I willing to do in order to achieve it? Why?
  • How will this affect my life and the lives around me when I get it?

Knowing your motivation will help you knock down the blocks, open the doors and scale the walls. It will become your incentive to fuel your deeper desire and establish commitment. Commitment will help to drive further than you can imagine.

Once you know the unknown, brick walls are just reminders of the depth of your commitment.

When next faced with an obstacle, what will you do?
