Helping people find themselves and get to where they want to be.
What are your goals
Erickson certified coach, Founder and CEO of Janette Goodman Coaching .
It is amazing how we identify ourselves with our job titles, processes and trappings – so when we begin to see retirement or the end coming, a transition is needed to successfully leave the world of work and still feel fulfilled. Speaking with a trusted person who will meet you in a non-judgement place to help you navigate the process, the ideas, the energy – that is what I do.
Growing up I wanted to be a teacher, a lawyer, and a nurse. I did not pursue any of these career paths directly, but rather, ended up doing all three and more. With over 30 years of business experience in the hospitality industry, I have experienced many different fields, identities and passions. Still, I wanted to do more.
If I look at what I have done well in the past, and what I think coaching can help others with, it is ‘transitions’ or making the change you want to see happen. This ranges from career transitions as you move closer to your long term goals, to transitioning away from the world of work and finding your new path.
I enjoy helping people develop; to find themselves and get to where they want to be.
I became a Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation in order to learn more about this field so that I could do it well. I am also an Erickson certified coach and have been coaching for four years.
A collection of what I’m learning in life
PLACING STRINGS ON KINDNESS
Can we place conditions on our acts of kindness? And if we do, are these genuine acts of kindness or something else altogether? Months ago, I was in the car with my daughter who was driving; we can have some incredible conversations when we just go for a car ride with no plan. On this particular day, I remember that
Lessons from “Groundhog Day”
Who amongst us hasn’t heard the reference lately that life has become “Groundhog's Day and I am living it over and over”? Groundhog Day is a movie starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell where Bill Murray’s character awakens every day at the exact same time, to the same music, to repeat the incidents of Groundhog
I recently realized that I needed help; I needed a coach. I was stuck in the muck of a personal situation and did not really know how to get out of it. As I coach I know that coaching can really help to open a person up to possibilities and solutions. But when does a coach need a
Blocks. Doors. Walls.
What do walls, closed doors and blocks all have in common – they are designed to stop you from getting what you want, keeping away from achieving your goals. But are they really? For me, no one said it better than Randy Pausch, “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep
Creating breathing space for executives and others
Time is one of the most precious commodities in all of our lives. As technology infiltrates more areas of our lives, thoughts and deeds, our minds rarely stop processing or are quiet. As we are, busy living our lives, creating mountainous to-do lists, grappling with opportunities and congested calendars, how do we find time to breathe? The creation
Our book of excuses
In a recent conversation with my boss he said to me, “put that in your book of excuses and the next time they use it, say ‘you used that one already.’” Hmmm, this got me thinking and I must say I thought about it a lot. How many excuses are there in the world today? I’ve read somewhere
Through working with Janette I learned to believe in myself and how far I can go to achieve my goals. I learned to not only appreciate my "weaknesses" and how I can use them to my advantage. Overall I became more confident, motivated and empowered to handle my work and my life.
When I reflect on the women who shaped and supported my career, Janette belongs on the short list. Her continuous guidance has earned my respect and trust, and became an instrumental part of my successes (and my life).
Executive Pastry Chef
I began to work with Janette because I was having a tough time managing my team...(Janette) helped me to understand how to become a better leader. Working with her helps me to reflect on things as well as from a different perspective.
I gained more self-awareness and (coaching) helped to refocus my purpose. (Working with you) had me thinking of stuff I did not plan on and created a capacity to turn things around.
I had a great experience being coached by Janette. Her thoughtfulness, attention to details, ability to be in touch with her client’s needs and kindness made this coaching experience go beyond my expectations… Live the Janette experience, you won’t regret it!
She has supported me and guided me through two transitions in leadership… Janette genuinely cares about what she does and the persons she works with. She is open, non-judgmental, and supportive.
Her method was not to tell me what to do, she did it by asking questions…and my answers led me to my solutions. I feel much better prepared and more at ease where I am work and career-wise than before I met Janette.
Each conversation was an opportunity to learn about career and experiences...since our first conversation, I saw calm and transparency... I loved Janette's personality and approach.
Pastry Chef & Adjunct Professor
Coaching with Janette guides me to clarify and understand what I want to focus on in my professional and personal life; and it always opens my horizons and my understanding!
Janette is level-headed, articulate and solves problems. She has great insight and great reflection.
